Box Score (WASHINGTON, Pa.) - The 24th-ranked Thomas More College men's soccer team clinched the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) regular season title and the No. 1 seed in next week's PAC Championship Tournament as it defeated Washington & Jefferson College, 2-1, tonight (Wednesday, October 26, 2011) at Alexandre Stadium.
With the win, the Saints improve to 13-1-1 overall and 7-0 in the PAC and with the loss, the Presidents fall to 6-10 overall and 3-4 in the PAC.
Thomas More led 1-0 at halftime as senior forward Ricky Barria (Erlanger, Ky./Dixie Heights) scored at the 27:44 mark.
W&J tie the match at 1-1 when it scored on an own goal at the 53:05 mark. Barria scored the eventual game-winning goal at the 76:00 mark on a penalty kick to give the Saints a 2-1 win.
Senior goalkeeper Zack Lawson (Frankfort, Ky./Frankfort) played all 90 minutes in goal and earned the win as he allowed only one goal, while recording two saves.
Thomas More out-shot the Presidents, 21-4, including 13-3 on goal. The Saints also won the battle of corner kicks, 5-1.
The Saints close out the regular season on Saturday (October 29) as they host Waynesburg University at 2:30 p.m. on Senior Day at The Bank of Kentucky Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
