Box Score 2 (GROVE CITY, Pa.) - The Thomas More College volleyball team defeated Grove City College, 3-2, and Hilbert College, 3-0, today (Saturday, October 15, 2011) in a tri-match at the Grove City Arena in Grove City, Pennsylvania.
With the two wins, the Saints improve to 13-9 overall and 8-4 in the PAC.
In the first match of the day, the Saints rallied to defeat Grove City College by the scores of 20-25, 21-25, 25-14, 25-16 and 15-3. Four Saints finished with double-digit kills as freshman outside hitter Karsin Cronin (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) and junior outside hitter Hanna Lietz (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) each had 17, sophomore middle hitter Tyler Deaton (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic) had 11 and senior blocker Katie Sullivan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) had 10. Junior setter Tori Verville (Edgewood, Ky./Holy Cross) paced the offense with 50 assists. Defensive, the Verville had 14 digs, freshman defensive specialist Kelsey Castiglioni (Harrison Township, Mich./L'Anse Creuse) and freshman defensive specialist Christina Brackett (Louisville, Ky./Seneca) each had 12 digs and Lietz added 10 digs.
In the second match of the day, the Saints defeated Hilbert by the scores of 25-6, 25-16 and 25-19. Freshman outside hitter Lauren Conradi (Villa Hills, Ky./Dixie Heights) led the offense with nine kills, while Deaton added seven. Freshman outside hitter Carly Smith (Burlington, Ky./Cooper) led the team in digs with 10 and senior setter Michelle Clifford (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) added eight digs. Deton and freshman outside hitter Connie Schulte (Ottawa, Ohio/Pandora-Gilboa) led the team in blocks with two each.
The Saints are making the drive to Waynesburg, Pennsylvania today to play Waynesburg University tonight at 7 p.m.
