Box Score 2 (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More College volleyball team fell twice today (Saturday, October 1, 2011) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) tri-match at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. The Saints fell to Bethany College, 3-0, and 3-2 to Geneva College.
With the two losses, the Saints fall to 9-8 overall and 5-3 in the PAC.
In the first match of the day, Bethany won by the scores of 25-20, 25-18 and 25-19. The Saints offense was led by freshman outside hitter Karsen Cronin (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) with 14 kills and senior setter Michelle Clifford (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) with 18 assists. Freshman defensive specialist Kelsey Castiglioni (Harrison Township, Mich./L'Anse Creuse) led the defense with 18 digs.
Geneva won the final match of the day by the scores of 17-25, 25-20, 16-25, 32-30, 15-13. Four Saints had double-digit kills as Cronin had 19, senior middle blocker Katie Sullivan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) had 15, freshman middle hitter Connie Schulte (Ottawa, Ohio/Pandora-Gilboa) had 11 and junior outside hitter Hannah Lietz (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) had 10. Clifford finished the match with 56 set assists. Defensively, four Saints had double-digit digs as Castiglioni had 33, freshman defensive specialist Christina Brackett (Louisville, Ky./Seneca) with 18 and Clifford and Lietz with 12 each.
The Saints return to action on Wednesday (October 5) when they travel to Washington, Pennsylvania to play Washington & Jefferson College at 7 p.m.
