Max Whitesell joins the Thomas More University baseball coaching staff as an Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator, bringing a strong combination of coaching, recruiting, and collegiate and professional playing experience to the Saints.
Whitesell comes to Thomas More after serving as the Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Clark State Community College. During his time with the Eagles, Whitesell played an integral role in recruiting the largest recruiting class in program history while overseeing the development of the pitching staff.
Prior to beginning his coaching career, Whitesell enjoyed a successful collegiate playing career at both the NCAA Division II and Division I levels. He spent three seasons at Ohio Dominican University, where he earned All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference honors in 2024 after posting a 5-1 record with a 3.10 ERA. Following his time at Ohio Dominican, Whitesell continued his career at Wright State University in 2025, earning All-Horizon League honors as a reliever after compiling a 3-0 record and a 3.91 ERA.
Following his collegiate career, Whitesell continued playing professionally with the Florence Y'alls of the Frontier League. Over two seasons, he made 45 appearances and recorded a 4.34 ERA.
Whitesell's experience as a collegiate and professional pitcher, combined with his success in player development and recruiting, will play a key role in the continued growth of the Thomas More baseball program.
“I had the opportunity to coach Max 3 years ago at Ohio Dominican, his ability to build relationships, passion for the game, and meticulous obsession for the process made him a great player as well as a great coach. His professional experience, knowledge and implementation of high-level pitching development is going to help continue to take this program to the next level.” said head coach Cole Shaffer
