(LEXINGTON, Ky.) – The Thomas More women's volleyball team has cracked the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top-10 as the Saints check in at No. 10 in this week's national poll.
The No. 10 ranking is the Saints' highest ranking since 1996. Thomas More was ranked in the Top-10 in 1992, 1993 and 1995. The Saints were ranked as high as No. 4 in the national during the 1993 season.
Thomas More has defeated three ranked teams at the time so far this season, Ohio Northern twice and Carnegie Mellon. Last week, the Saints fell to No. 3 ranked Wittenberg 3-1, taking them to extra points in two out of the three sets the Tigers won. The Saints still have No 1. Calvin and No. 12 Hope (twice) on their schedule this season.
First-year outside hitter Emily Mohs (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) leads the Saints hitting attack as she is hitting .354 with a team-best 174 kills. Senior setter Jenna Fessler (Fort Mitchell, Ky./Beechwood) paces the offense with 412 set assists. On the defensive side of the net, junior defensive specialist Jessica Ginn (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) leads the team in digs with 246 and junior middle hitter Jenna Mummert (Batavia, Ohio/Clermont Northeastern) leads the block party with 55 total blocks.
The Saints return to action Friday and Saturday (September 28 and 29) when they compete at the Millikin Invitational in Decatur, Illinois. Thomas More will play Buena Vista on Friday and then play Millikin and No. 12 Hope on Saturday.
