Thomas More Preseason No. 5 in the Nation

(MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.) – The Thomas More University women's basketball team is ranked No. 5 in the Preseason Poll, which was released today (Monday, October 22, 2018) by the internet website.

The Saints return three starters from last year's squad that was 30-2 and advanced to the NCAA Divisions III Championship's Semi-finals "Final Four.  Thomas More fell to eventual national champion Amherst College in the semi-finals.  The team had a +33.6 scoring margin last year as it scored 85.0 points per game and held opponents to 51.4 points per game.  The Saints had a +7.7 turnover margin and a 1.5 assist turnover ratio, while shooting 48.6 percent from the field.

Thomas More coached by eighth-year Head Coach Jeff Hans returns three of five starters as senior guard Madison Temple (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson), junior guard Taylor Jolly (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) and sophomore guard Hayden White (Milford, Ohio/Milford).  The Saints also return junior forward Emily Schultz (Melbourne, Ky./Bishop Brossart), senior forward Shelby Rupp (Milan, Ind./Batesville) senior guard Kelly Clapper (Newark, Ohio/Newark Catholic), sophomore guard Tori Gilman (Milford, Ohio/Milford) and sophomore guard Kaela Saner (Florence, Ky./Boone County), who all averaged over 10 minutes per game last season.  Senior guard Michaela Ware (Newport, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) also returns to the lineup after missing last season due to an injury.

The Saints will play or have potential in-season tournament match ups with five teams in the Top-25 and five receiving votes.  Those teams are No. 3 Hope College, No. 7 University of Chicago, No. 13 DePauw University, No. 21 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, No. 22 University of Texas-Dallas and receiving votes Wheaton (Ill.) College, Baldwin Wallace University, Whitman College, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and Marietta College.

Thomas More will open the 2018-19 season on November 9 when it travel to Wheaton, Illinois to play Wheaton at 7 p.m. Central/8 p.m. Eastern.  The Saints will open their home portion of the schedule on November 14 when they host Midway University at 7 p.m. inside the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
