(CRESTVEIW HILLS, Ky.) – Thomas More University Acting President Dr. Kathleen Jagger and Director of Athletics Terry Connor have announced that Stephen McGill has been promoted to head men's soccer coach at Thomas More.
McGill has served as assistant coach at Thomas More the past two seasons, including the last half of the 2018 season as the interim head coach. While serving as the interim head coach he guided the Saints to the American Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) tournament championship. McGill also helped lead the Saints to the 2017 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) championship and an appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship as an assistant coach. During his two years at Thomas More, he served as the recruiting coordinator for the Saints.
"We are excited to name Stephen the new head men's soccer coach at Thomas More," stated Connor. "He has been an integral member of the men's soccer coaching staff the last two years and we are confident he continue to grow the program as we transition to NAIA and the Mid-South Conference next academic year."
Prior to Thomas More, McGill as a graduate assistant coach at Northern Kentucky University from 2013 to 2014. He helped guide the Norse to a second place finish in the Atlantic Sun Conference during the school's transition to NCAA Division I. McGill has also served time as an assistant coach at Turpin High School, Newport Central Catholic High School and McNicholas High School. He has coached club soccer for Kings Hammer Soccer Academy and currently works with Northern Kentucky Soccer Academy.
"I would like to thank President Jagger and Terry Connor for the opportunity to be the head coach at Thomas More, said McGill. "I will look to build upon the success the program has had the past decade as we transition to the NAIA and the Mid-South Conference and will recruit student-athletes that the Thomas More community will be proud of on and off the soccer field."
In 2006 he was the Ohio State High School Player of the Year at Turpin High School, while also being named NSCAA All-American in 2006. He played collegiately for one year at Bucknell University and three seasons at Northern Kentucky. While at Northern Kentucky, he was a member of the 2010 NCAA Division II National Championship team.
McGill is a 2012 graduate of the Northern Kentucky as he major in international studies and minored in political science. He holds a USSF E License and is a member of the Hall of Fame at Turpin High School and his 2010 Northern Kentucky team is in the Northern Kentucky University Hall of Fame.
