Shawn Barone is in his 8th season as the head women's tennis coach at Thomas More University, and his first season as the head men's tennis coach during the 2025-26 academic year.
The 2024-25 season saw the Saints post an overall record of 9-9 on the year and a G-MAC record of 4-5. The Thomas More women's tennis team earned a spot in the G-MAC Tournament, where they fell in the quarterfinal round to Hillsdale. Thomas More had one student-athlete earn All-Conference honors and two CSC Academic All-District members.
During the 2023-24 season, Barone led the Saints to a 3-11 overall record in their first season in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference and NCAA Division II. The Saints had one student-athlete earn CSC Academic All-District honors.
In the 2021-22 season, Barone had three All Mid-South Conference selections (One first team, and two second team).
Barone came to Thomas More from Northern Kentucky University, where he had served as the assistant men’s and women’s tennis coach for six years (2011-13 and 2016-2018). At NKU, he was involved with recruiting, arranging team travels, conducting individual and group practices, while also coaching during matches. Barone was named the Midwest Assistant Coach of the Year in 2012, while assisting the women’s team at NKU.
Barone also served as the men’s and women’s assistant tennis coach at the University of Dayton (2010-11) and was the head girls’ varsity tennis coach at Loveland High School (2008-2010). While, at Loveland he was named the FAVC Coach of the Year in all three years as he was in charge of overseeing all three girls’ tennis teams at the high school and organizing fundraisers for the program.
Since 2014, Barone has been the tennis director at Five Seasons Sports club in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. As the tennis director, he is in charge of the entire tennis department, including supervising staff, programing and financials, while designing programs that fit the needs of the club’s members. Barone also served 12 years as the tennis director of junior programs at Five Seasons and was the head professional for eight years at Kenwood Country Club in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Barone is a 2001 graduate of Northern Kentucky and was a four-year letter winner for the Norse. He was named the team captain his senior season. Barone has been a USPTA Certified Tennis Professional since 2007 and earned his Etcheberry Cetification in 2008.
