John Fox

John Fox is entering his 10th season as the head coach of the rugby program in 2025-26, and his 7th season as the lone head coach after Al Lucas was the Co-Head Coach for the first three seasons. The Saints rugby team is considered a varsity program.

After building up the program over the first few years, and bringing in talented players, the Saints have really become a force the last two seasons. They won the National Collegiate Rugby (NCR) Division II National Championship during the 2021 campaign, defeating Adrian College in the finals, 21-17.

This season, the Saints bumped up to Division I in the NCR and joined the Big Rivers Rugby Conference. They won the conference in its first year of existence, with a perfect 5-0 conference record. The Saints advanced to the semifinals of the NCR National Tournament, before falling to Queens University of Charlotte, 37-19.

During his time as head coach, the Saints have had three players named NCR All-Americans and three players taken in the Major League Rugby draft. Hudson Montgomery was named a Division II All-American in 2021 and a Division I All-American in 2022. Matías Caramuti was also a two-time All-American in 2021 and 2022. Tomás Casares was named a Division II All-American in 2021.

In the 2021 MLR Draft, Saints Fly Half Alejandro Torres was taken by the Dallas Jackals with the 23rd overall pick, becoming the first Saint ever to be drafted. In 2022, a pair of Saints in Tomás Casares and Matías Caramuti were chosen. Casares was taken in the second round with the 17th overall pick by the New England Free Jacks, while Caramuti was taken just three picks later at number 20 by the Dallas Jackals, joining his former teammate Torres.

Other roles Fox has held are coaching stops at the University of Arkansas, Mount St. Mary’s College, and the U18 coach for the Eagle Impact Rugby Academy. He was also the Director of High School Rugby in Maryland, Director for the Cincinnati Rugby Football Academy (where he and Al Lucas began the program), Instructor and Coach for The Rugby Academy in DC, and currently an instructor and coach for the Midwest Thunderbirds Rugby Academy.
