Men's Basketball Comes Up Short in ACAA Semi-Finals to Alfred St.

(ALFRED, N.Y.) - The Thomas More men's basketball team fell short today in the ACAA Conference Tournament Semi-Finals, 68-64, to host school Alfred State. With the loss, the Saints drop to 16-9 on the season and wait to see if they will be moving on in the NCAA Tournament beginning next weekend. 

  • The first four minutes of the half were back-and-forth between both teams. 
  • Alfred State took a 10-3 run halfway through the first half to give 
  • The Saints tied it back up at 16-16 with 11 minutes to go in the half. 
  • Alfred State went into the locker room up 35-28 at the half. 

  • With two minutes left in the game, the score was all tied up at 59-59. 
  • With a couple free-throws, Alfred State went up by five with less than a minute to go. 
  • With nine seconds left, Damion King connected on a layup to get within one point of the Pioneers. 
  • The Pioneers went on to win by four with the help of last minute free-throws. 

  • Three Saints put up double-digits toinght against the Pioneers. 
  • King led the way with 21 points against the Pioneers, along with six rebounds and four assists. 
  • Ralph Stone and Garren Bertsch shared the team's second-most with 12 points each. 
  • Stone added seven rebounds and seven assists on the night, as well as going 2-3 from beyond the arc.  
  • Bertsch also recorded four rebounds and one assist. 
  • Brandon Horne recorded four points, three rebounds, and one assist in the game, going 1-3 from the field and 2-2 from the line. 
  • Ryan Batte grabbed six rebounds while dishing out four assists. 
  • Ryne Callahan added nine points and two rebounds, going 3-9 from the field. 
  • Noah Pedelty put up five points, two rebounds, and two assists.
  • The Saints shot .431 from the field tonight, compared to Alfred State's .451. 
  • Thomas More dominated in points off turnovers, having the 11-2 advantage. 

  • The Saints return home and await to see if they earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament when the NCAA selection show airs Monday at 12:30 p.m. at
