Second Half Push by Saints Not Enough in 72-63 Loss at Shawnee St.

(PORTSMOUTH, Ohio) - The Thomas More men's basketball got to see a preview of what next year in NAIA will entail, as the Saints fell short in round two against the future Mid-South opponent Shawnee State, 73-63, tonight. The Bears snapped the Saints nine-game win streak as the Saints dropped to 15-8 overall on the season. 

 

  • The Saints went into the locker room down 40-25 at the half. 
  • Thomas More took some time to get started in the second half but went on a run to get within eight with a minute to go in the game. 
  • The Saints ultimately came up short due to the Bears connecting on their late-game free-throws. 
  • Damion King and Ryan Batte led the team scoring 21 and 22 points respectively. 
  • King added the team-high seven rebounds, along with four assists and two steals, while Batte recorded four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. 
  • Brandon Horne and Ryne Callahan tied for the third most points on the team with six each. 
  • Callahan went 2-3 from beyond the arc tonight while Horne went 1-1 from beyond the arc, grabbed three rebounds, and dished out three assists. 
  • Garren Bertsch finished with five points in the game, going 2-5 from the field and 1-4 from beyond the arc. Bertsch also grabbed two rebounds, recorded one assist, and one steal. 
  • Ralph Stone finished the game with three points, going 1-2 from beyond the arc, grabbing two rebounds, recording one assist, two steals, and the teams' lone block in the game. 
  • Thomas More shot .407 tonight from the field and .750 from the foul line compared to Shawnee State's .482 from the field and .875 from the foul line. 

  • The Saints return home for the final home game and final game of the regular season to take on Wright State-Lake on Feb. 16 for Senior Night. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
