(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College men's basketball team fell, 80-66, to Thiel College today (Saturday, February 6, 2016) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the loss, the Saints fall to 12-9 overall and 9-5 in the PAC. With the win, the Tomcats improve to 11-10 overall and 9-5 in the PAC.
Thiel jumped out to an early 21-14 lead with 10:07 to play in the first half when Avril Campbell made a lay-up. Thomas More answered with a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 21-19 when junior forward/center Simon Clifford (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) converted and old fashion three-point play with 9:34 to play in the opening half. The Tomcats closed out the half on a 15-7 run to build a 36-26 halftime lead when Khari Bess made a lay-up with 13-seconds to play in the half.
The Tomcats opened the second half on a 13-8 run to extend the lead to 49-34 when Luke Kochka made a jumper with 14:49 to play in the game. Thomas More responded with a 25-17 run to cut the lead to 66-59 with 3:27 to play in the game when freshman guard Brandon Horne (Louisville, Ky./Male) made one-of-two free-throws. That would be as close as the Saints would come as Thiel closed out the game on a 14-7 run for the 80-66 victory.
Clifford led the Saints in scoring with 23 points, while freshman guard Ryne Callahan (Morehead, Ky./Rowan County) finished with 11 points and Horne added 10 points. Junior guard Sawyer Pauly (Crescent Springs, Ky./Covington Catholic) led the team in rebounds with eight, assists with five and steals with five.
Thomas More returns to action on Wednesday (February 10) when it travels to Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania to play Geneva College at 7:30 p.m. at Metheny Fieldhouse.
