Thomas More Falls to In-State Rival Centre on the Road

(DANVILLE, Ind.) – The Thomas More College men's basketball team fell, 68-61, to in-state rival Centre College today (Saturday, November 28, 2015) in a non-conference game at Alumni Gymnasium in Danville, Kentucky.

With the loss, the Saints fall to 1-3 and with the win, the Colonels improve to 4-1.

Thomas More took an early 10-5 lead when junior guard Sawyer Pauly (Crescent Springs, Ky./Covington Catholic) made two free-throws with 15:56 to play in the first half.  Centre answered with a 15-4 run to take a 20-14 lead with 10:31 to play in the first half when Sam Gruber made two free-throws.  Thomas More responded with a 9-2 run to take a 23-22 lead when freshman guard Damion King (Winchester, Ky./George Rogers Clark) converted an old fashion three-point play with 7:58 to play in the half.  The Colonels closed out the half on a 16-11 run to take a 38-34 lead at halftime when Tucker Sine made a three-pointer with one-second to play in the half.

The Saints opened the second half on a 6-0 run to take a 40-38 lead when freshman guard Brandon Horne (Louisville, Ky./Male) made a lay-up with 17:54 to play in the second half.  Zach Schumucker's lay-up with 7:32 to play in the game capped a Colonel 20-8 run to build a Centre 58-48 lead.  Thomas More cut the lead to 58-56 with 6:16 to play in the game when sophomore guard Daniel Williams (Louisville, Ky./Jeffersontown) made a lay-up to cap an 8-0 lead.  Centre closed out the game on a 10-5 run to earn the 68-61 victory.

Junior forward/center Simon Clifford (Louisville, Ky./duPont Manual) led the Saints in scoring with 15 points, while Williams joined him in double-figures with 14 points.  Clifford had a double-double in the game as he led the Saints on the boards with 11 rebounds.  Williams led the team in assists with four.

Thomas More returns to action on Wednesday (December 2) when it opens Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play with a 7:30 p.m. game with Waynesburg University in the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
