Thomas More Falls to Division I Austin Peay in an Exhibition Game

(CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.) – The Thomas More College men's basketball team fell, 85-64, to NCAA Division I-member Austin Peay University tonight (Monday, November 2, 2015) in an exhibition game at the Winfield Dunn Center in Clarksville, Tennessee.

The Saints jumped out to an 8-2 lead with 17:45 to play in the first half when sophomore guard Daniel Williams (Louisville, Ky./Jeffersontown) made a jumper.  The Governors answered with a 7-2 run to cut the lead to 10-9 on a Chris Horton lay-up with 15:08 to play in the opening half.  Thomas More responded with a 6-0 run capped by a three-pointer by sophomore guard Jacob Hall (Bowling Green, Ky./Warren Central) to extend the lead to 16-9 with 14:19 to play in the first half.  Austin Peay's Jared Savage converted an old fashion three-point play with 10:11 to play in the half to tie the game at 19-19.  Sophomore guard Corey Howard (Gahanna, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln) made a three-pointer with 7:35 to play in the first half to cap the Saints' 6-2 run and give Thomas More a 25-21 lead.  Austin Peay closed out the half on an 18-9 run to take a 39-34 lead at halftime when Savage made two free-throws with 29-seconds to play in the half.

The Governors controlled the second half as they out-scored Thomas More 46-30 and won the game, 85-64.

Williams led the Saints in scoring with 19 points, while junior forward center Simon Clifford (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) added 10 points.  Clifford and freshman guard Damion King (Winchester, Ky./George Rogers Clark) each had five rebounds to lead the team.  King led the team in assists with three.

Thomas More opens the 2015-16 regular season on November 20 and 21 when it hosts the Coach Jim Connor Classic at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.  On November 20, the Saints will host Rust College at 7:30 p.m., while John Carroll University and Birmingham Southern University play in the 5:30 p.m. game.  On November 21, Thomas More plays Birmingham Southern at 4 p.m. and John Carroll and Rust battle at 2 p.m.
