Thomas More Travels to Hanover on Saturday



(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College returns to the gridiron on Saturday (September 8) when it makes the short trip to Hanover, Indiana to play traditional rival Hanover College at 1:30 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.

THE TEAMS: Thomas More, an independent, is 0-1 on the season after a 35-28 setback against N.C. Wesleyan College last Saturday in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.  Hanover, a member of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, is also 0-1 after a 28-18 loss to Centre College in Danville, Kentucky last Saturday.  Matthew Theobald is in his third season at Hanover and has an 8-13 record.  Prior to his time at Hanover he was an assistant at Franklin College for 13 seasons.

THOMAS MORE: The Saints are averaging 28.0 points per game this season.  Thomas More has 435 yards per game in 2018 as it has 197.0 yards per game on the ground and 238.0 yards per game passing.  Junior quarterback Justin Post is 18-of-34 passing for 238 yards and two touchdowns and also has four rushes for 14 yards.  Senior running backs Hjavier Pitts and Luke Zajac  are splitting time at running back.  Pitts has carried the ball 19 times for 121 yards and one touchdown, while Zajac has six carries for 62 yards and a touchdown.  Senior wide receiver Logan Winkler is the Saints' top receiver has he had four catches for 76 yards and one touchdown.

HANOVER: In 2018, the Panthers are averaging 18.0 points per game.  Hanover is averaging 369.0 years per game as it has 120.0 yards per game rushing and 249.0 yards per game passing.  Sophomore quarterback Noah Wezensky is 22-of-39 passing for 229 yards and two touchdowns and also has 13 rushes for 19 yards.  Sophomore running back Shawn Coane has 21 carries for 63 yards and one touchdown to lead the Panthers' ground game.  Junior wide receiver Jackson Daugherty is the top receiver has he has five catches for 60 yards and one touchdown.

THOMAS MORE: Thomas More held its opponents to 35.0 points per game in 2018.  The Saints' opponents have rushed the ball for 159.0 yards per game and 338.0 yards passing for total of 497.0 yards per game.  Junior linebacker Cody Coffey has seven tackles (six solo/one assisted), including one tackle for a loss, sophomore defensive back Devon O'Bryon has seven tackles (five solo/two assisted) and junior defensive back Thomas Williams had seven tackles (four solo/three assisted).  Sophomore defensive lineman Elijah Jouett leads the team in sacks with one.

HANOVER: In 2018, the Panthers have held their opponents to 28.0 points per game and 361.0 yards of total offense.  Hanover's opponents average 122.0 yards per game rushing and 239.0 yards per game passing.  The Panthers' defense is led by senior defensive end Dakota Manion with 12 tackles (seven solo/five assisted), sophomore linebacker Kyle Treber with seven tackles (six solo/one assisted), including one tackle for a loss and junior defensive tackle Chase Cope with five tackles (all solo), including one tackle for a loss.

SERIES HISTORY: This will be the 17th all-time meeting between Thomas More and Hanover on the gridiron.  Thomas More holds an 11-5 advantage in the series between the two schools and has won the last six meetings.  The Saints won the last meeting between the two schools, 84-7, during the 2015 season in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
