Thomas More Drops Doubleheader to Dallas

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More University baseball team dropped a doubleheader to the University of Dallas today (Saturday, April 6, 2019) at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.  Dallas won game one 4-1 and the nightcap 6-2.  The Saints fall to 9-12 and the Crusaders improve to 15-13.


  • Thomas More took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when senior short stop Sean Lawrence (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) hit a home run.
  • Dallas then plated one run in the third, two in the fourth and one in the seventh for the 4-1 victory.

  • Five Saints had a hit in the game.
  • Lawrence was one-for-three with a run batted-in and a run scored.

  • Thomas More used five pitchers in the game.
  • Sophomore pitcher Jordan Houze (Lawrenceburg, Ind./Lawrenceburg) suffered the loss as he pitched five and two-third innings giving up three runs (all earned) on seven hits and struck out six.


  • Dallas scored a run in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead.
  • The Saints tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first when senior right fielder Joshua Boeckmann (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) hit a RBI single scoring sophomore left fielder Brady Reynolds (White Oak, Ohio/Oak Hills).
  • Thomas More took a 2-0 lead in the second when senior center fielder Blaise Ostertag (Burlington, Ky./Connor) scored on a RBI single by first-year second baseman Brett Benzinger (Taylor Mill, Ky./New Richmond).
  • The Crusaders then scored one in the fifth and four in the seventh to pick-up the 6-2 win.

  • Junior catcher Matt Wellbrock (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was two-for-four with a double.
  • Benzinger was one-for-two with a RBI.
  • Boeckmann was one-for-four with a RBI.

  • First-year pitcher Bailey Martin (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) had a no-decision as he pitched four and two-third innings giving up two runs (both earned) on three hits, while striking out three.
  • Senior pitcher Jonathan Breeden (Erlanger, Ky./Dixie Heights) suffered the loss as he pitched one and two-third innings and gave up four runs (three earned) on five hits.

  • Thomas More and Dallas will close out the three-game series tomorrow with a nine-inning game scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. at Thomas More Field.
