(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) – The NAIA announced their 30 at-large selections into the NAIA National Championship Tournament this evening, with three coming from each weight class. Saints redshirt junior
Shay Horton (Verona, Ky./Ryle) was named an at-large bid at 125 pounds. This is the third straight season that Horton has qualified for nationals.
Horton went 2-2 at the Mid-South Conference Championships this past weekend in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He finished fourth at 125 pounds, winning a match by forfeit and the other by 4-3 decision over Campbellsville University's Izaeah Beavers.
Overall, this season, Horton is 17-13 with five falls. He has two technical falls and one major decision victory this year. In duals, he is 9-4, while he is 8-9 in tournament action.
Horton joins fellow teammates
Ryan Moore (Crittenden, Ky/Walton-Verona/Cornell University),
Wilder Wichman (Johnson Creek, Wis./Johnson Creek),
Kailan Keith (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis), and
Daulton Mayer (Mentor, Ky./Walton-Verona) in qualifying for the national tournament. Wichman has qualified four times, while Mayer and Moore have qualified three times, and it is Keith's first time qualifying.
These five are 85-36 overall this season with 49 falls. The NAIA National Tournament is held in Hartman Arena in Wichita, Kansas and takes place on March 3rd and 4th.
