(OWENSBORO, Ky.) – The seventh-seeded Thomas More University women's tennis team defeated 10th-seeded Bethel (Tenn.) University, 4-1, today (Thursday, April 15, 2021) in the first round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament at Centre Court in Owensboro, Kentucky.
- The Saints earned the doubles point as they won two of the three matches.
- No. 1 pair of senior Matison Perry (Union, Ky./Ryle) and sophomore Kimberly Sabga (Marval, Trinidad and Tobago/International School of Port of Spain) won 6-1.
- Senior Jana Riffe (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) and first-year Cassie Saner (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) fell 6-2 at No. 2.
- No. 3 tandem of first-years Aman Dail (North Hollywood, Calif./Walton-Verona (Ky.)) and Sydney Johnson (Independence, Ky./St. Henry District) won 7-5.
- Sabga was a 6-4, 6-1 winner at No. 1.
- Dail won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4.
- Riffe clinched the win for the Saints when she posted a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5.
- Perry fell 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2.
- Saner trailed 7-6, 2-0 in an unfinished match at No. 3.
- Johnson trailed 6-2, 1-6, 3-0 in the unfinished match at No. 6.
- The Saints advance to tomorrow's quarterfinal round where they will play second-seeded and 16th-ranked Lindsey Wilson College at 12:30 p.m. Central/1:30 p.m. Eastern at Centre Court in Owensboro, Kentucky.
