(OWENSBORO, Ky.) – The sixth-seeded Thomas More University men's tennis team defeated 11th-seeded Shawnee State University, 4-0, tonight (Thursday, April 15, 2021) in the first round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament at Centre Court in Owensboro, Kentucky.
- The Saints earned the doubles point as they won two of the three matches.
- No. 1 pair of sophomore Sergio San Pablo (Madrid, Spain/Valdefuentes) and first-year Fernando Martin Paz (Brunete, Madrid/Alcala) won 6-1
- Senior Brandon Kwok (Sugar Land, Texas/Stephen F. Austin) and junior Gavin Dail (North Hollywood, Calif./Van Nuys) won 6-0 at No. 1.
- No. 2 tandem of senior Jared Haught (Edgewood, Ky./Covington Catholic) and first-year Juan Villagrana Francisco (Cordoba, Veracruz/TEC de Monterrey) were tied 4-4, but the match was stopped the Saints had clinched the point.
- Martin Paz won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3.
- Haught was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 5.
- Villagrana Francisco clinched the match as he posted a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4.
- Dail trailed 4-6, 0-6 in an unfinished match at No. 1.
- San Pablo led 6-2, 1-1 at No. 2 in an unfinished match.
- First-year Casey Vicars (Burlington, Ky./Holy Cross) led at No. 6 6-0, 3-0 when it was stopped.
- The Saints advance to tomorrow's quarterfinal round where they will play third-seeded and receiving votes Cumberland (Tenn.) University at 5:30 p.m. Central/6:30 p.m. Eastern at Moreland Park in Owensboro, Kentucky.
