(HILTON HEAD, S.C.) – The Thomas More College men's tennis team defeated DeSales University, 8-1, today (Tuesday, March 7, 2017) in a non-conference match at the Shipyard Evian Tennis Center in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
With the win, the Saints improve to 1-3 and with the loss, DeSales falls to 1-3.
Thomas More led 3-0 after doubles play as the Saints dominated all three matches. Sophomore Derrick Kwok (Sugar Land, Texas/Stephen F. Austin) and first-year Michael Kenney (Carmel, Ind./Guerin Catholic) won 8-0 at No. 1, first-years Sheldon Preisler (Sand Diego, Calif./Boone County (Ky.)) and Cameron Shi (China/Scott (Ky.) won 8-2 at No. 2 and the No. 3 tandem of first years Brian Sears (Vine Grove, Ky./North Hardin) and Logan Daniels (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) won 8-1.
The Saints won five of six singles matches to complete the 8-1 victory. Kwok won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1, Preisler won at No. 2 by the score of 6-1, 6-0, Kenney won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3, Shi won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 and sophomore Christian Gil (Auburn, Ind./Conner) won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6.
Thomas More returns to action in Hilton Head tomorrow when it plays Heidelberg University.
