(DEFIANCE, Ohio.) – The Thomas More College men's tennis team split a pair of non-conference matches today (Saturday, February 28, 2015) inside the George M. Smart Center in Defiance, Ohio. The Saints defeated Muskingum, 8-1, but fell to host Defiance College, 9-0.
With the split, the Saints are now 1-2 on the season.
In the match against Muskingum, the Saints led 3-0 after doubles action as sophomores Austin Justice (Mason, Ohio/Mason) and Jared Justice (Mason, Ohio/Mason) won 8-1 at No. 1, junior Sergio Pascual (Carrollton, Ky./Carroll County) and freshman Sam Lewis (Stawell England/Crispin School) won 8-0 at No. 2 and freshman Will Neltner (Villa Hills, Ky./Covington Catholic) and senior Michael Stephens (Fort Thomas, Ky./Covington Latin) won 8-1 at No. 3.
In singles action, Pascual won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1, Jared Justice won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2, Austin Justice won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3, Neltner won 6-2, 4-6, 10-8 at No. 4 and Lewis won, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5.
In the second match of the day against Defiance, the No. 3 tandem of Neltner and Stephens battle, but fell 8-5 and Jared Justice battle at No. 2 singles, but fell 6-2, 6-2.
Thomas More returns to action the week of March 8 when it travels to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina for a three matches. When the schedule of matches become available it will be posted on tmcsaints.com
