(PARK HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College women's tennis team defeated Carlow University, 8-1, today (Saturday, October 11, 2014) in its regular season finale at the Notre Dame Academy Courts in Park Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 5-7 and with the loss, Carlow falls to 2-3.
Thomas More swept the three doubles matches as the No. 1 tandem of freshman Alyssa DeFigilio (West Harrison, Ind./East Central) and sophomore Anna Hetzer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) won 8-6, No. 2 team of freshmen Julie Estridge (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) and Sam Zwick (Union, Ky./Ryle) won 8-0 and senior Petina Strickley (Bellevue, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) and junior Paige Thoerner (Taylor Mill, Ky./Beechwood) won 8-4 at No. 3.
In singles play, DeFigilio won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1, Hezter won at No. 2 by the score of 6-0, 6-1, Estridge won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4, Zwick won 6-4, 5-7, 10-5 at No. 5 and Strickley won at No. 6 by the score of 6-1, 6-0.
Thomas More is idle until October 24 and 25 when it travels to Erie, Pennsylvania to compete in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships at the Pennbriar Athletic Club.
