Thomas More Sweeps Two Matches in West Virginia.

(BETHANY, W.Va.) - The Thomas More College women's tennis team swept two Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matches today (Saturday, September 7, 2013) as it defeated Bethany College, 9-0, and Chatham University, 8-1, at the Mary Ewing Tennis Center in Bethany, West Virginia.

With the sweep, the Saints improve to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the PAC.

Thomas More opened the day with the 9-0 win over Bethany.  In singles action, senior Maria Pascual (Carrollton, Ky./Christian Academy of Carrollton) won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1, freshman Jenny Block (Sellersburg, Ind./Silver Creek) won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2, sophomore Paige Thoerner (Taylor Mill, Ky./Beechwood) won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3, freshman Anna Hetzer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4, freshman Melissa McMullen (Bethel, Ohio/Bethel-Tate) won 7-5, 6-1 at No. 5 and freshman Madison White (Bethel, Ohio/Bethel-Tate) won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6.

In doubles action, the No. 1 tandem of Pasucal and Thoerner won 8-5, the No. 2 team of Block and Hetzer won 8-1 and the No. 3 tandem of White and McMullen won 8-0.

In the second match of the day the Saints defeated Chatham.  In singles play, Pascual won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1, Block won, 6-3, 6-2, Hetzer won at No. 4 by the score of 6-0, 6-1, McMullen won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 and While won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 6. 

In doubles play, the No. 1 tandem of Pascual and Thoerner won 8-0, the No. 2 team of Block and Hetzer won 8-3 and the No. 3 tandem of McMullen and White won 8-5.

Thomas More returns to action tomorrow as it hosts Thiel College at 1 p.m. at the Notre Dame Academy Courts in Park Hills, Kentucky.
