(BEREA, Ky.) - The Thomas More College women's tennis team defeated Berea College, 5-4, today (Saturday, September 29, 2012) at BC Courts in Berea, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 4-5 overall and with the loss, Berea falls to 3-3.
Berea led 2-1 after doubles as the Saints' lone win game at No. 3 when freshman Brigid Burwinkel (Cincinnati, Ohio/Home Schooled) and freshman Petina Strickley (Cold Spring, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) won 8-4.
In singles play, senior Emily Wesselman (Union, Ky./St. Henry) won 4-6, 6-3, 10-7 at No. 2, Burwinkel won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3, senior Sierra O'Bryan (Edgewood, Ky./Covington Latin) won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4 and freshman Paige Thoerner (Taylor Mill, Ky./ Beachood) won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5.
Thomas More returns to the courts when it hosts Chatham University tomorrow (Sunday, September 30) at 10 a.m. at Notre Dame Academy in Park Hills, Kentucky.
