(CINCINNATI, Ohio) - The Thomas More College women's tennis team defeated Bluffton University, 9-0, today (Friday, October 5, 2012) in a non-conference match at Western Hills Tennis and Fitness Club in Cincinnati, Ohio.
With the win, the Saints improve to 6-5 overall and with the loss, the Beavers fall to 0-13.
The Saints won all the singles matches as junior Maria Pascual (Carrollton, Ky./Christian Academy of Carrollton) won, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1, senior Emily Wesselman (Union, Ky./St. Henry) won 6-0-6-0 at No. 2, senior Sierra O'Bryan (Edgewood, Ky./Covington Latin) won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3, senior Ashley York (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4, freshman Paige Thoerner (Taylor Mill, Ky./Beechwood) won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 and freshman Petina Strickley (Cold Spring, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
Thomas More also swept all three doubles matches as Pascual and Wesselman won at No. 1 by the score of 8-0, O'Bryan and Thoerner won 8-0 at No. 2 and Strickley and freshman Brigid Burwinkel (Cincinnati, Ohio/Home Schooled) won 8-1 at No. 3.
The Saints return to action tomorrow (Saturday, October 6) with a pair of matches in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. They will play Waynesburg University at 10 a.m. and Washington & Jefferson College at 2 p.m.
