Four Saints Named to All-Region; Mohs Named Freshman of the Year; Spinney Named Coach of the Year

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) -  The AVCA announced the All-Region teams today, Nov. 8, 2018. The No. 7-ranked, 31-3 overall, Thomas More University had four players named to the All-Region team, as well as first-year Emily Mohs named the Great Lakes Region Freshman of the Year and Head Coach John Spinney was named the Great Lakes Coach of the Year. Mohs and junior Jenna Mummert were named to the Great Lakes All-Region team and senior Jenna Fessler and sophomore Jessica Ginn were named Great Lakes Honorable Mention. 

Mohs, an OH/RS from Cincinnati, Ohio and Seton High School, was named the Great Lakes Freshman of the Year and was named the Great Lakes All-Region team. Mohs has recorded 51 digs, 72 blocks, four assists, and the team high of 414 kills. She has been named ACAA Player of the Week twice this season, once in September and the other in late October. Mohs was also named AVCA Player of the Week after the team defeated No. 1 Calvin and recorded 36 kills in the match. 

Mummert, a middle hitter from Batavia, Ohio and Clermont Northeastern High School, was named to the Great Lakes All-Region team. Mummert has recorded 354 kills, along with nine assists, 79 digs, 95 blocks, and 33 service aces. She was named ACAA Player of the Week twice this season, once back in September after the Bluffton Tournament and the other in late October.

Fessler, a setter from Fort Mitchell, Ky. and Beechwood High School, was named a Great Lakes Honorable Mention. Fessler has recorded 67 kills, 46 service aces, 34 blocks, 243 digs, and leads the team with 1,136 assists. She has been named ACAA Player of the Week twice this season, once in September and the other in October.

Ginn, a defensive specialist from Cincinnati, Ohio and Seton High School was named a Great Lakes Honorable Mention. Ginn has recorded three kills, one block, 52 assists, 27 service aces, and leads the team with 619 digs. She was named ACAA Player of the Week back in September after the Bluffton Tournament.

Spinney, who is in his 14th overall season, and 11th in his current stint with the Saints has been named Great Lakes Coach of the Year. He has taken his team to a 31-3 overall record so far this season, defeating five nationally ranked teams. The highlight of the season so far has been taking down the No. 1-ranked Calvin earlier this season. He has led the team from being ranked to No. 23 at the beginning of the season to a season-best No. 5-ranked. The Saints currently sit at No. 7 in the nation. His team recently won the ACAA Tournament Championship on Sunday, November 4, 2018.

The Saints begin the first-round of the NCAA Tournament this weekend taking on Pitt-Bradford on Friday starting at 3 pm in Huntingdon, Pa.
