Women's Basketball Opens Season at Wheaton

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More University women's basketball team opens its season today at 7 p.m. taking on Wheaton College. 

  • Thomas More comes into the 2018-19 season with a No. 5 pre-season rank. 
  • Thomas More ended the 2017-18 season 30-2 overall. 
  • The Saints reached the 'Final Four' falling to Amherst 66-48 after the Saints took down Oglethorpe 84-58 and Juniata 83-50 in the first and second rounds, Gustavus Adolphus 75-67 in the 'Sweet Sixteen', and Hope 72-57 in 'Elite Eight'.
  • Thomas More had a 29 game winning streak, with its only loss of the regular season coming in the second game of the season, 61-58 to Rochester. 
  • The Saints started the season off ranked No. 5 in the nation, dropping to No. 9/10 in the nation after the Rochester loss, and worked their way back up to the season-best No. 3-ranked. 
  • The Saints defeated the No. 2-ranked Christopher Newport in Hawaii. 

  • The Saints return two starters from last season, including Madison Temple and Hayden White.
  • Temple, a senior from Cincinnati, Ohio, and Anderson High School, was named a three-time PAC Player of the Week, named a three-time  D3Hoops.com Team of the Week, earned her 1,000th collegiate career point against Willamette in Hawaii, named PAC Player of the Year, named to the All-PAC Team, named USBWA Player of the Year, WBCA All-America honors, PAC SAAC Scholar-Athlete of the Month, and named a D3Hoops.com All-American last season. 
  • Temple played and started in all32 games, going 210-378 from the field, 62-136 from beyond the arc, and 92-105 from the line for a season total of 574 points, along with 170 assists and 223 rebounds. 
  • White, a sophomore from Milford, Ohio, and Milford High School, and who was named PAC Player of the week last season, played and started all 32 games last season as a first-year. 
  • White went 38-80 from the field and 17-32 from the foul line recording 93 points, three blocks, 21 assists, 15 steals, and 123 rebounds. 
  • The Saints also return sophomore Tori Gilman, senior Shelby Rupp, senior Kelly Clapper, junior Emily Schultz, junior Kaela Saner, sophomore Briana McNutt, sophomore Jules Howard, and sophomore Kylie Anderson
  • Thomas More adds seven newcomers to the squad this season. 

  • Today marks the season opener for the Thunder as well. 
  • Wheaton ended last season 22-6.
  • The Thunder recorded 2,024 points last season, along with 1,214 rebounds, 517 assists, 248 steals, and 236 blocks. 
  • Wheaton welcomes five freshmen to the squad this year.
