No. 12 Saints Defeat SUNY Geneseo, 2-0, to Advance to Regional Championship Game

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The 12th-ranked Thomas More University softball team advanced to the championship round of the NCAA Division III Championship's Crestview Hills, Kentucky Regional as it defeated SUNY Geneseo, 2-0, today (Saturday, May 11, 2019) in the winner's bracket final at Thomas More Field.  The Saints improve to 34-9 and the Knights fall to 34-11.

  • Junior first baseman Andrea Gahan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) hit a two-run home run, bringing senior pitcher Alix DeDreu (Rising Sun, Ind./Rising Sun) for the games only two runs.

  • DeDreu earned the win as she pitched a complete game shutout giving up four hits and striking out nine.

  • Gahan was two-for-three with a home run, a double, two runs batted-in and a run scored.
  • DeDreu was one-for-two with a run scored.
  • Senior third baseman Whitney Quillen (Dayton, Ky./Highlands) was one-for-three.
  • First-year designated player Elana Harrison (Mason, Ohio/Mason) was one-for-two.

  • Thomas More will play either SUNY Geneseo or Dickerson College in the championship game tomorrow at 12 p.m.
  • The Saints needs to win one of two games tomorrow as the "if necessary game" is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
