Men's Basketball Defeats Adrian in Day One of Mount Union Classic

(ALLIANCE, Ohio) - Seniors Ryne Callahan (Morehead, Ky./Rowan County) and Brandon Horne (Louisville, Ky./Male) led the Saints to an 89-57 win over the Adrian Bulldogs tonight in day one of the Mount Union Classic. The Saints improved to 8-7 overall with the win tonight. 

  • Both Callahan and Horne put up double-digits in the first-half as Callahan posted 14 points and Horne posted 10. 
  • The Saints took an early 6-1 lead in the first four minutes of the game. 
  • Thomas More went on a 19-4 run in the middle of the first half, sparked by a layup from Horne, putting the Saints up, 26-12 with less than eight minutes to go in the half. 
  • Thomas More went into halftime up by double-digits, 43-22. 

  • Callahan and Hone both posted double-digits again in the second-half, as Callahan put up 10 and Horne put up 12. 
  • Garren Bertsch (Alexandria, Ky. / Campbell County) posted four assists in the second-half. 
  • Kort Justice (Vandalia, Ohio / Butler) extended the Saints led to 33, the largest lead of the game, with a three-pointer with two minutes left in the game. 

  • Four Saints finished in double-digits tonight. 
  • Callahan finished the game just short of a double-double with 24 points, one assist, eight rebounds, and one block. 
  • Horne posted 22 points, five rebounds, one steal, and went 10-14 from the field. 
  • Damion King (Winchester, Ky. / George Rogers Clark) finished the game with 13 points, five rebounds, and two steals. 
  • Bertsch, the fourth Saints to post double-digits, finished with 11 points, five rebounds, and six assists. 
  • Ralph Stone (Shelbyville, Ky. / Martha Layne Collins) posted the team-high of seven rebounds, along with four points and five steals. 
  • Justice finished the game going 2-2 from the field and beyond the arc for six points on the night.

  • The Saints take on day two of the Classic, taking on Trine for a 1 p.m. tip tomorrow afternoon.
