Callahan Reaches 1,000 Points and Stone Posts Double-Double in 81-76 Loss to Chicago

(LEXINGTON, Ky.) – The Thomas More men's basketball team fell to Chicago tonight in a hard-fought, back-and-forth, game. The Maroons took down the Saints 81-76, dropping the Saints to 6-6 overall on the season. 

  • Senior Ryne Callahan (Morehead, Ky. / Rowan County) reached his 1,000th career point at Thomas More five minutes into the game after hitting a three-pointer: 30 seconds into the game and connecting on a lay-up a few minutes later. 
  • Damion King (Winchester, Ky./George Rogers Clark) led the Saints in the first half, putting up 11 points, two rebounds, and three assists. 
  • Ralph Stone (Shelbyville, Ky./Martha Layne Collins) grabbed five rebounds in the first half. 
  • The Saints trailed by as little as four points, fighting the entire first half to head into the locker room tied at 35 a-piece.

  

  • Chicago came out of the half and quickly went up by 12. 
  • The Saints fought back, cutting the Maroons lead in half with eight minutes to go in the game. 
  • With less than a minute in the game, Callahan drills a three-pointer to put the Saints within three. 
  • A few last-second efforts for the Saints, but Thomas More fell short by five, 81-76. 
  • Both King and Callahan put up double-digits in the second half, King with 14 and Callahan with 11. 
  • Stone dominated the boards in the second half again, grabbing six rebounds. 

  • Callahan became the 30th player in program history to reach his 1,000thpoint. 
  • Callahan finished the game with 18 points, three rebounds, two assists, and one steal. 
  • Stone recorded a double-double, grabbing 11 total rebounds and putting up 12 points in the game. 
  • King ended the game with 25 points, along with seven assists, two rebounds, and one steal. 
  • Brandon Horne (Louisville, Ky./Male) ended the game with nine points, four assists, five rebounds, and two steals. 
  • Garren Bertsch (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) totaled eight points, three rebounds, and two assists. 
  • Noah Pedelty (Mason, Ohio/Mason) led the bench with four points and two rebounds. 
  • The Saints led the Maroons in points off turnovers, 11-2, steals, 7-2, and blocks, 3-1.
  • Thomas More shot .449 tonight from the field. 

  • The Saints take on Transylvania in the final day of the Don Lane Classic tomorrow at 5 p.m.
